In today’s class we played around using with app ChatterPix Kids, which is a way to make images come to life! You simply need to create a character, take a photo of your character, and then using the app it turns that character into a talking or singing character using your own voice.
We’ll be using this app when we go into a grade 2 class next week as a class, to work with kids to create their own characters, to then use the app to make their little creations come to life.
In order to integrate the outside world into our little creation, we went outside to find some rocks, pinecones, and leaves to create our little character. It can be hard to “get down with” integrating even more screen time into a student’s everyday routine, but if you’re going to do it, I’d say why not get them outside at the same time? Get them interacting with the world around them to notice their surroundings!
So here is our little creation using materials we found around our school property

Image Description: Concrete background, with a silly little character who has a pinecone hat, eucalyptus leaves for eyes with googly eyes on top of the leaves, a rock for a mouth with little white rock teeth, a long fern as it’s body, red leaves as it’s arms, and little pinecones for feet
And here is our creation using the ChatterPix Kids app!
Now what? At first I’ll be honest, I wasn’t totally sold on this app, it felt a bit underwhelming, but I’ll admit that the kids thought it was absolutely hilarious and wanted to make more. It was nice to integrate outdoor learning with a tiny bit of silly tech to end the day. Emphasis on the outdoor learning!!
